I'm Dreaming of a Beach Christmas
It's not a new thing for me to always be cold. Even though I grew up for the most part in Canada, I still can't handle the weather it brings. Summers, sure, I can venture outside with tights and perhaps a t-shirt; but winters, now that's a different story...
The temperature right now in YYC is -36°C; for those of you in the USA, it's around -33 F. Cold-cold! I can't help but dream of a beach somewhere to lay out, absorb the heat, and not think about trying to start my vehicle in this frigid land. I'm not the kind of person that needs snow or cold for Christmas. Maybe it's because I've grown up around the mountains and have had my fill. Maybe I was supposed to be born in another place. (Brazil, to be accurate- a different story for a different time. ) Maybe I've just grown acclimatized to a tropical atmosphere. Whatever the reason, my wanderlust is in full swing as I search for vacations to leave on Christmas Day. In case you're looking too, here is a link to the best on my favorite Hawaiian Island.
Enter Hawaii. The Big Island. The youngest Island in the Hawaiian chain, just over 1 million years old. The Big Island is 4,038 square miles (and still growing). All the other Hawaiian Islands could fit inside the Big Island with room left over. The land is entirely diverse, immense lava fields stretch out if you land on the Kona side of the island, whereas Hilo brings lushness, but not without cost; Its location on the windward coast (relative to the trade winds), makes it the fourth-wettest city in the United States. Nevertheless, I've compiled 5 reasons why you may want to vacation at the beach for Christmas.
5 Reasons to Spend Christmas at The Beach
1. The stress of the holiday season is left at home.
There is nothing worse than feeling stressed as the end of the year approaches. Perhaps it is due to financial obligations to send money to family members, or pressure to wrap things up at work. Shopping madness and holiday preparations deserve a break. Rather than attending other people's Christmas celebrations or hosting your own, you can spend time with your loved ones at the beach. You don't have to deal with stress, obligations, or fancy parties. It's just you, your family, and the sand between your toes.
2. A better deal is usually available.
The end of the year is the best time for resort owners to offer their best deals, hoping to attract more guests. This is an excellent opportunity to save some money. Resorts tend to be less crowded during the holiday season due to the popularity of celebrating Christmas at home, making this a great time to enjoy more privacy and amenities.
3. The warm weather makes it a nice escape from the cold.
Those visiting from countries with winter have an even greater incentive to visit the beach. Pack sandals, swimsuits, and sunscreen in place of heavy coats, jackets, scarves, and mittens. The other people will be frozen from the snow, while you will be glowing from your beach Christmas and full of exciting stories.
4. It's the perfect place for creating lasting memories.
Beaches remain a favorite destination for many people, no matter when they visit. It's easy to find fun water activities that the whole family will enjoy. There are fun activities for everyone, whether you're a child, a grandparent, or a young couple.
5. The experience is different from a traditional "White Christmas."
In lieu of making a snowman, you can compete to make the best Christmas-themed sandman. For a Hawaiian dancer-like look, add coconut tree leaves to the waist and coconut shells to the chest of your sandman. Whether it be snow or sand, activities as a family prove to make the season brighter.
There is no reason why Christmas cannot be celebrated anywhere. As long as you have your loved ones with you, or are in touch with them for the holidays, it still counts as a special moment. The beach can, however, be an unforgettable and memorable experience for the whole family. Your family may just discover this is their new favorite Christmas tradition.
